I grew up in a time when we could afford Doctors, hospitals, houseing, food, and gas. Before unions ran alot of companies and insurance was a had to have on cars. I listened to music that you could tell what was said, and your parents said be home by dark and by george you were cause you would be standing for a few days if you weren't. Seatbelts were invented, and our country still had one room schools. Where I grew up we all knew everyone and the police knew our families. There was very little crime because we all knew Jonny, Mary and My parents and you lived in fear that mom and dad would find out you cussed. I remember sitting politely listening to the elderly go on and on about the good old days and thought black and white TV was too cool. We got 2 or 3 channels and loved it. Hop Along Cassidy was my hero. You still listened to shows on the radio and with your parents.
I was there when they passed the law that 18 was now the offical legal age and you did not need your husbands signature to get your tubes tied. I was alive when the first color TV was introduced to the market and I was on a swing when JFK was killed outside our then 2 room school house. Yes those were good old days when you could play outside at the park until dark with no parents to watch you, and you knew who needed help because their dad was out of work and the nieghborhoods chipped in to help. I watched wars come and go and people complain about them. I lived in a time when Children were children, not so many young mom and dads. I watched the hippies, yippies, and other groups come and almost go. I watched LSD hit the drug market and ruin lifes.
I learned to drive before you had to insure your car and we drove tanks of a car. That was when a car lasted forever and you got the old family car. My first car was a 49 olds delta 88 and I loved it. Yes they were the good old days, when parents let you play because we were a community and every mom watched out for every child as they would their own. I watched this change to no one knows their neigbors and don't want to, where you see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing, then complain when nothing is being done to solve anything.
I lived when we all took care of each other and never expected the government to do it. We did what had to be done because at that time we were a community of people who BBQed with each other and gathered at homes to watch the news, TV programs and talk about family. Where we found the teens at Johnnies on 22cd street, (AZ) and could bring our kids home if it was too late for them to be out. Yes I lived in the good old days when we weren't taxed to death and killed sitting on our porches nor did we fear our children playing at the park. Things have changed and we now have computors, and our kids are not safe in their own yards much less the park and mom works so we have latch key kids. And drive in movies were the thing.
Now schools are huge and our kids do not learn as much nor do they help the younger ones like we did. Yes I think I did live in the good old days even if we didn't have airconditions and all these modern things. We had each other and kids who played outside and moms at home cooking dinner and taking care of them and faimily was the center of your world. We knew every one and we talked to the police and life was much slower. Those were the days. Today I have lived for 5 years and can't tell you who lives on my old street cause I do not know them. I move to a small town because my husband got sick for a year and we lost everything. But I moved to a place where every one knows every one and the police stop and talk to you and We all gather at the local fast food place to listen to gospel music.
I think I may have moved to the good old days, only it cost more and I have a computor, and we are still struggling but we have great neigbors and they know us and we know them. Our kids play outside and at the parks and we don't worry. We can work with the doctors not the insurance companies and we take care of our large family called the community. Yes I have moved into a time warp and it is nice to be home. I have moved to an age where moving slow and caring about each other is the thing to do. It's good to go back in time to the good old days.
Now this is a true story of a small town and how several families going threw the same crunch we are reached into their pockets and dealt out a few hundred or so to help a senior whose mother has a very bad heart and can't work, his father died a few years ago, and they live on a very small income. Needless to say she had to choose either his prom or his cap and gown for garduation. She chose the cap and gown because that is all she could afford so he could not go to the prom. He was too embarassed to tell this to any one so he claimed he just didn't want to go. But a group of families figured it out. One bought him a suit, one paid for his ticket, and one paid for his girlfriends, while another rented the limo for her son and his friends to go to the prom which included this child. This was done because they saw in his eyes the real pain he felt and it reached out to them.
Now none of them are rich, none of them have secure jobs, all of them have their own children to worry about, yet they all reached down and gave so one child could remember his last year of school with fond memories. Now they didn't save the world, write a novel, or make front page news, but they are all heros because they saw a need and met it without embarassing the child, or his mother. It was an extra ticket, a suit the wrong size and extra seats in a limo and a girl with a ticket who didn't have a date. It was a night to remember for a child who needs good memories. It was a community taking care of it's family. Even the ones who are not related.
On most Saturdays ther are fewer than 2000 people on this site. Right now there are 4062. That's about a 100% increase. Could it be that the price of gas is keeping us all home?
As I predicted several months ago we are seeing the price of groceries go up as well. It won't be long before before we hear stories about older folks on fixed incomes who have to resort to eating canned dog food to survive (it happened back in the 70s when gas skyrocketed the last time). Look for them to start pushing alternative meats as well. In the 70s it was horsemeat. Textured soy protein was sold as hamburger extender. I wouldn't be surprised to see a big increase in people who hunt & fish just to put food on the table and of course more folks will start doing some home gardening. I also see a market developing for some things we normally dont eat like o'possum & raccoon.
Normal price increases usually happen over a period of time and they keep pace with inflation pretty much. Gasoline and diesel fuel seem to be the only commodities that are capable of driving inflation. During normal times it seems to rise and fall rather gradually. Most of us probably wouldn't even talk about the increase if it were a steady few cents a year but we really sit up and take notice when it increases over $2.00 per gallon in less than 3 years. Do you remember that it was hurricane Katrina that started this mess? Since then they have used every excuse in the book to jack up the price.
I don't buy into the propaganda that this actually helps those who have money in oil stocks either because unless they have stocks in all kinds of commodities they gain in oil stocks and then get hurt when they have to buy gas & groceries just like the rest of us. Its only the people with really large holdings in oil stocks who are getting ahead.
I hear that the value of SUVs & pickup trucks is plummeting. Its a good thing! Using less fuel might help but the demand in China & India is growing so fast that they will probably use up whatever we save and still the price will rise.
It really is time to get serious about alternate fuels. Its crazy, some ethanol plants are going out of business because they aren't selling enough of it. We need to be supporting our alternative fuel industries IF FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN TO GET AWAY FROM OIL, GASOLINE AND DIESEL FUEL!
I had the pleasure of attending a portion of the Relay for Life 08 Raytown Youth last night. They moved the event indoors to the Gym due to the soggy football field, but that didnt dampen spirits for this group of great teens.
The candle light vigil wasnt lost due to the move inside, the group leaders moved quickly and got glow sticks and necklaces to light up the students and the luminaries. It was a beautiful thing to see the gym lite up during the vigil with only glow sticks.
It was a very emotional night to say the least. To see so many students participating in such a worth while cause. One student lost a loved one just yesterday, another lost her father in March and one that was walking/running in honor of his mother that is fighting the battle today. While my son has never experinced a loss of a close loved one. So many young lives touched by the effects of cancer.
I am very proud of this group of students that went to school on friday and then attended the Relay for Life at 7pm to 7am saturday. Most students had been up since 6 am on friday and vowed to stay awake for over 24 hours.
It is a very proud moment for this mother to witness my son participating is such a wonderful event.
When todays youth often gets a bad wrap, last night proved to me that we do have youth that have huge hearts.
First off... Hello everyone! I think its time for a little rant that I have been longing for...
Why in the world does Funkhowser believe he deserves a raise? When is the last time anyone has ever applied for a job, and got a raise during their probationary period? "Oh, let me sit on my asz and decide to work once they pay me more" He's cutting budgets and is about to kill the already on life support KC Zoo with the $600,000 cut they faced now they have to increase admission by $1.00.
To hell with the MODot workers and City budget. Theres a way it can fix itself over time... Let these people sitting in these over crowded jails downtown with Traffic tickets and unpaid warrants and petty crimes zip up the bright orange jump suits and BOOGEDY & span our city for 8 hrs a day...! I get up and work $9hr shifts to struggle day to day and these sons of b**ches are eating Ham and Cheese watching the Lakers on TV, shooting hoops and just sitting waiting for a 2009 courtdate for petty theft because jails are overcrowded and our courts system is backed up 9 mos. When they can be doing something productive and even teaching them work skills and how it feels to get your hands dirty...
There is no reason this isnt already in place. There shouldnt be some petty thief sitting in a cell for free paying back his debt to society with time while it costs us $1000's of dollars a mo taking care of these miscreants. Take his/her asz and make them scrub the grafitti walls downtown and do landscaping from Independence to Downtown along I-70 and Hwy 71. How much neglect will this city take? Thats almost as similar to the oil we have in Alaska we refuse to touch. We have resources here to make our city Top Notch and we cant get the Munster Mayor to figure it out...
I've worked the courts system before... KCPD arrests a nickel and dime drug dealer, a car thief or a trespasser with approx. $500.00-$2000 warrants, he goes to jail, bails out for $100 or a FREE signature Bond, then doesn't report to court and is reissued the same $500 warrant. Gets caught again and sits in jail a few days, goes to video court and is out once again to ROAM FREE on our streets with a slap on the hand. This vicious cycle continues for months and even years and our city has yet to collect the $500 he owes it. Why not put his asz is jail and be ordered to pay the $500 or... Make him/her join a WORKER GROUP that goes out and works for 8 hrs on our roads and neighborhoods at $50 a day until the debt is paid off???
Thats 10 days of service to our great city for FREE! That way we dont have to cut jobs and budgets when someone else can fill those positions at $0 to our city and we can keep the hard workers paid, budget balanced, and even create more jobs in the correctional fields to supervise these criminals when out working and its a WIN-WIN...
I dont care how their feelings and dignity have been affected. How should we feel with Spraypaint on the sides of new buildings and left to walk home when our cars get stolen. Just the same, you do the crime then damnit, you do the time!
This is TRULY a form of JUSTICE!
Now for all of you that think Illegals are a pain, TN bootleggers have found an untapped market. Seems the illegals can't buy booze the normal way because they need valid id's so a group of bootleggers in TN opened store for just that market. The shame is they got arrested and the illegals that buy the hooch are still out there. There is a bright side, now that it made the news we may see more Americans keeping some of our money here with a new untapped market. Give those people a hand for thinking of how to beat the game.
I'm not saying what they did is right. I just think if the goverment wont deport them then why shouldn't a few Americans make illegal money off illegals making illegal money. When it comes down to it all they did is take our money from one source and put it back into the economy. Isn't that what the goverment wants? A boost to our economy?

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY: RELAY FOR LIFE
CLINTON & DEKALB COUNTY
HELD IN CAMERON MO.
TODAY FROM 5:00PM TO 6:AM IN THE MORNING
Why is it that the Local Media is making a big deal out of this local American Idol kid, and Not a Big deal about my neighbors Kid that just returned from Iraq this week, after risking his life for our freedom,
Because the News Media Suckks and everyone should open their eyes and thank the real heros, the young men and women that are willing to risk their lives for our freedom,
People who annoy me MAY 8th
1. Hypocrites- Don't you just love people that talk smack about others that have absolutely no room to talk?
2. The delusional Obama supporters- I think that Obama supporters got sent little pinwheels. When they spun them it hypnotized them into supporting Obama. That must be it because any logical thinking human being would not in their right mind support this joker. Hell, I think I'd make a better president.
Note: If you agree with me speak up!!! If not go make yourself useful.
Me being a better president is a sarcastic statement, sorry I have to disclose that or some know-it-all will try to get smart about it.
Fine Print ^ lol
Stay tuned for more people that annoy me
Hello All!
Well I got on another kick and decided to send a letter to the White House. I have sent it a few times and have yet to get a response. Maybe they are waiting to build a case against me and charge me with some random crime.....Here is the letter you tell me what you think:
This letter is directed towards all "leaders" of our country, As a 33 year old single mom I must say that the state of this country is increasingly scary. When I was growing up I never thought that I would witness the things that I have seen happen in recent years. I feel that is my job as an American to voice my opinion even though it is simply to an automated response email system. Granted growing up I was taught that one honest voice is louder than 1000 screaming voices so let's hope that I rock the automated system. At one time the US was considered to be the best of all nations, most powerful and a place that gave it's citizens the freedom to speak, to bear arms.....yadda yadda yadda. Not so much anymore and it is due to the decisions that the people setting in their cushy chairs up there in Washington make for us. What makes us less free you may ask...well I hope you have a minute because I am about to launch into a bit of a "speech" of sorts...though some may think that I am just ranting.....In truth I am venting my frustrations. So here it goes.... I am sick to death of hearing about giving ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS rights to things that they have NO business getting. I am tired of hearing about wrongful spending and who slept with who and who did what 20 years or even 50 years ago! I am sick to death of watching the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA cowering down to a bunch of overindulged snot nosed idiots that can't think for themselves. I am so sick of watching my money that I bust my butt to earn be thrown away on a bunch of useless plans and strategies or supporting yet ANOTHER welfare case or for that matter some crazy inmate sitting on death row. You people were chosen BY US to stand up for us to be our voice you know kinda like a union rep. So why is it we are the last ones on your mind? I hear how we need less criminals and less violence....kids today are out of control....we need to put an end to drug use....it is all a bunch of smoke and mirrors as far as I am concerned. Let's take the "overcrowding in jails." I find this to be absolutely comical because of the way things are handled nowadays as opposed to 50-75 years ago. I am by no means a Bible thumper but for the love of Pete people! AN EYE FOR AN EYE!!!! In my opinion it is simple..if you kill someone, rape someone, or molest a child... you should be executed. If you rob a person, business or house...you should have your hands removed. If you assault someone to the point of near death or death... you should be executed. If you are caught transporting or selling drugs you should be executed!!!! NOT THAT HARD TO FIGURE OUT!!! Amazing how I always hear that there is no room in jails...yet there is PLENTY of ammunition in this country as well as rope! Think about it ....why do people dread going to jail in other countries? Hmmm maybe because they are exactly what they are supposed to be A HELL HOLE! We are the only country that treats our criminals better then we treat our senior citizens. You want less crime well here is a simple solution actually punish the criminals, stop letting them appeal and reappeal what they have done while they sit in some nice clean prison watching cable and eating better then most families do. And if the criminal is under a certain age...not only punish them but the parents as well after all they learned it from somewhere! And let's just say that if they use the "insanity plea" well then do to them what is done to a dog that has rabies...after all it isn't the dog's fault, he isn't of right mind. As for the youth of today...well that is simple... give parents the right to be parents again. I have stood by and watched CHILDREN punch, bite and slap their moms and dads...but you let that parent get ahold of that child by the arm to let them know that it is not acceptable behavior and suddenly out of nowhere Child Protective Services is there trying to charge the PARENTS with abuse. EXCUSE ME? I have never nor would I ever harm my child she is the center of my world, but I can say this...she knows the difference between right and wrong and she knows what she can and cannot do. The reason she knows is because in my house I am the boss. Kinda funny how all these children that are acting out, killing other kids or beating up their parents come from homes where mom and dad have NEVER spanked, grounded or said "NO"! Gee I guess as soon as a rocket scientist gets some free time to look into it the government will figure out that the lack of discipline in the homes has been caused by the lack of thorough investigations into abuse cases, you know what I am talking about I am sure, but just in case you don't I will give you an example: 26 calls on a suspected child abuse, Child services comes out several times yet finds nothing because when asked the child doesn't admit to the alleged abuse. That child winds up being beaten to death by his father 3 weeks later. Now across town a 15 year old girl gets mad at her parents for not allowing her to go to the mall, so she starts an argument, slaps her mom and her mom slaps her back. The girl runs to her room and decides she'll show them and makes a call to the police, child services show up and the parents are charged with suspected child abuse and endangerment all because a teenage girl that is a known truant and trouble maker says "I am afraid of my mom." Now she is in a "home for girls" begging to come home but the state won't allow her to, because it is a dangerous environment. Don't think this is happening....take a better look I made those calls and that little boy was beaten to death because he was TOO AFRAID TO TALK ABOUT IT. That is a sign of an abused child. If a child is being abused they cower down and will not tell you about it out of fear of what will happen to them. A disciplined child will say "well I have got spanked for that before so I won't do it again" but an overindulged brat....well you should all know they make it bigger than life and in some cases could win an Oscar. As for the drug use....maybe just maybe if drug dealers were made examples of ya know like maybe EXECUTE them, it wouldn't appear to be such a glamorous lifestyle. Kinda amazing how entire cities have managed to ban smoking yet drugs are still a problem. Sincerely, A concerned AMERICAN in Kansas.
