FOX 4 Parenting

There are a lot of toys to choose from when shopping for Christmas presents. So how do you decide what to put under the tree for your kids? FOX 4 Parenting Expert Heather Waterfield has some tips.

  • Seek toys related to child's interest
  • Focus on the play those toys encourage
  • Read manufacturer's age level suggestion
  • Look for toys to keep kids actively engaged
  • Consider outside stereotypes

  • Young Infants: mirrors, soft toys, rattles
  • Older Infants: soft blocks, pop-up boxes, soft books
  • Toddlers: stacking toys, push/pull toys, board books
  • Preschool: wooden blocks, pretend-play toys, puzzles
  • School-Agers: board games, chapter books
