I live here. You live here. Chances are that we are both the sons or daughters of immigrants. Mine came from a number of different countrys and I count Native Americans amongst my forefathers.

Prior to the 1980s immigration to this country was strictly controlled. By controlling immigration we fairly successfully kept out disease, criminals, those who would become a public charge and those with questionable morals.

People came here from all over the world - they were vibrant and industrious. They wanted to become Americans and build a better life for themselves and their families. They wanted to learn English, they wanted to assimilate. They wanted to become a part of the greater American culture.

Today we have thousands pouring accross our southern border who are not interested in assimilating. They want to continue with their South American, Mexican, Hispanic culture. They work and yes, they work hard but for low wages, often "under the table", they don't have health insurance, they overburden our hospitals and our welfare system and they lower the standard of living for all Americans. That includes Americans of Hispanic origin. In the short term it may seem that helping these people settle here is a plus for LEGAL Hispanics in the long term they will bring down your standard of living as well.

America just cannot continue to absorb this influx of illegals without all of us paying a very high price

Regardless of who you are or where you or your ancestors came here from I suggest that you re-think any compassion or sympathy you hold for this ILLEGAL invasion from our south because if it continues you might just find yourself living under the same abysmal conditions which you or your forebears attempted to escape.

Amen to that jstol3, what has taken over Mexico, what and who controls Mexico right now? The people, no drug cartels, two specifically and they will kill, kidnap, and rob the people of their country. How do you know the people coming over the border with their "paperwork" has not been fixed by corrupt police who now work for the cartels. Who are we accepting into this country? Amnesty, do we know that the people here now are not working for those same cartels to corrupt America, who are doing corrupt work to strengthen their cartel counterparts across the border. Corrupting our youth by getting them to sell drugs for them, and threatening their lives. Buying IDs through mafia connections to buy homes in America with their drug money. Why did Bush allow trouble along the border states that governors complained about and that fell on deaf ears. Loredo, why hasn't Bush sent in military to control the problems? Why did Bush assign a Israeli who has a dual citizenship in America to head our homeland security? Why is the fence that they are building now has been proven to a area that has non active? Why doesn't the fence get built in Texas? Along El Paso, Loredo, Eagle Pass so that military can leave a very small area to monitor and choke off the cartel. Why ask why, maybe it is all of the Bush's plan, and along comes Obama speaking of a civil police group, martial law for all. Investigate, research as much information as possible, Bush has already stated if impeached he will threaten martial law, not on borders where it was needed to detoured the terrorist that have

needed to detoured the terrorist that have taken over their country by force, but instead Bush encourages makes many visit to the Latin American countries and encourages NAFTA, which has proven to be a lucrative entry for drugs and illegals. Just what is Bush supporting, terrorists? What happen to his "War on drugs" his "War on terrorists" plans? All lies, you decide.

I agree! We also must remember that there are other illegals than the hispanics...but for some reason they are not forcing us to learn their language. I went to IHOP the other morning for breakfast...and I will not go back, they have their menu written in both English and Spanish.

This is the United States of America, not United States of American and Mexico. We speak English in America, not Spanish. I also got annoyed with the Spanish/English bank slips (print was so small to accommodate the Spanish words...couldn't read it). I believe in treating everyone humanly, but that does not mean giving away when we can't afford to take care of ourselves. We have some major problems now (and I would like to say I think this particular problem has been a HUGE effect on our economy in MANY WAYS). We couldn't afford it 30 years ago. We can't afford it now. Illegal immigrants should not get any benefits and should be treated the way that WE would be treated if WE went into any other country illegally...

Let me spell it out for you...
...put in jail, ship back to country of origin at the COUNTRY OF ORIGIN'S COST! Don't believe in any kind of abuse, but do believe they should not be able to function illegally here in any way.

All they have to do is fill out the paper work.

What's so hard about that? If they don't have the papers then they come here illegally.

jstol, your post worked, just two days later a large plant in Laurel MS was raided. 600 people detained by Customs.

"Nearly 600 immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally were detained, creating panic among dozens of families in this small southern Mississippi town."

Here's the rest of the article!

doug -

I would like to imagine that it was my blog that caused that raid. I would write one an hour.

The truth is that it is the cumulative pressure of all of us who don't like this illegal invasion and who write, email, and call their Senators and Representives at the Federal, State, and local levels and, I hope, those of us who blog continuously about our dis-satisfaction.

Also Kudos to the Minutemen, Missourians Against ILLEGAL Immigration. The Fire Coalition, Californians for Population Stabilization, Numbers USA, The American Legion and a host of other organizations and individuals who are making their voices heard on the subject of ILLEGAL immigration!

independant. If anyone wants to correspond directly with me you can do so at [email protected]. I see myself as both a conservative and a conservationist. I despise wastefulness but I don't want environmentalists telling me how to live my life. I'm all for a free market system except when it comes to energy. This is a monopoly thast needs to be regulated! I diverge from most conservatives when it comes to abortion and stem cell research as I belive in freedom of choice and scientific progress as I believe that we were given a brain to think with. Knee jerk reactions and one issue politics turn me off. I am both a Vietnam veteran and former Vietnam war protester (we should have been allowed to win). I am an advocate of the war in Iraq (as long as we do what we have to to win) and the war on terror.
