This was my first day to read through some of the blogs on here, thought I respond on some things.
the loose tire that hit the van, I hope you find them, be thankful it didn't come through the windshield, and/or you wasn't on a motorcycle.
PICKUP TRUCKS/SUVs/VANS - My experince is and the way I think when I'm on my motorcycle is that anyone of them can kill you very quickly. I get so many people making left turns in front of me, cutting in front of me then appling brakes. I have know clue what these people are thinking. Unless you drive or have been a passanger on a motorcycle you won't fully understand.
Fast moving trash trucks - Trash truck along with any of the delivery truck, UPS, FedEx, and most Semi Truck. Notice the amount of Semi wrecks this past week. There was a fellow that was traveling on his motorcycle and went to pass a Semi. The cheap re-tread tires that a lot of them use came apart and the tread hit him causing him to lose control and it ended up killing him. I'm sure everyone has seen those tire treads either in the road or on the side of them.
Are you a tailgater? A lot of people are and if you are on a motorcycle it makes no difference to most. In a car you can tap your brakes and sometimes they back off. On a motorcycle I never had one back off. I think it's more of a game to some to see how close they can get to you. I have been out on 435, rush hour traffic someone on my tail and I hear brakes start squealing in front of me. Luckily I was in the left lane a took the shoulder and the car behind me came inches from the car I was in front of.
I just want to respond to a few of these as to what your fears and concerns are. Think of what they would be if you was on a Motorcycle. When you are on the road, watch out for the motorcycles. Most do not look for or relate it as a threat as another car or semi. Someone in one of the blogs mentioned people using cell phone as too much of a distraction while driving. I have had close calls with people with cell phone, a woman putting on makeup, people eating, and a person that looked like they was trying to pick up some thing off of the passenger floor, and a guy looking over his shoulder to see a cop having someone pulled over. Anything that causes you a second or two distractions can kill a guy or gal on a motorcycle. There is a increased risk riding a motorcycle and I do choose to take that risk. I ride over 20000 mile a year just on my Harley. I have no plans to give it up. And to make things fair... these kids on these little sport bikes hot roding in and out of traffic and ridding wheelies down public rode’s, speeds well over the limits, to you I say do some thing wrong long enough, you will always get caught, or kill yourself, or worse yet kill someone else.
And I want to thank those of you that are courteous toward Motorcycles.
I could go on but this is getting too long... God bless, Tom
