OK I just finally figured out how to fix a very frustrating problem. I want to pass the info on here in case anyone else has run into this.
I have an XM radio that I use at work and in my car. In my car, I use the casette adaptor (it's a fake tape that has a wire going to the XM receiver to send the signal).
Well my car stereo has auto reverse, and it doesn't play well with the tape adaptor. It keeps reversing itself, then spits the tape out and says "bad tape" on the display.
Here's how you fix this very annoying problem:
Take the tape adaptor apart, There is a little white gear in between the rubber wheel that makes contact with the stereo. This white gear is turned by the rubber wheel and it then turns a bigger gear which turns the casette gears via a middle gear. Sounds complicated, it's not. Just look at it and you'll figure it out.
PULL THAT STUPID LITTLE WHITE GEAR OUT and put the tape back together.
You have to leave the middle gear (big one) because both wheels have to spin or your deck will think it's not working and spit the tape out. If done correctly, the rubber wheel is intact, both the reel gears still spin in synch, but they are disconnected from the rubber wheel.
Hope this saves someone else some headaches.

I love to discuss political philosophy. The problem I have is that liberals often assume I'm conservative and convserervatives often assume I'm liberal. It's because I'm neither. I'm libertarian, which means I believe in both social and economic freedom. I don't do personal attacks. I won't respond to yours, and I won't initiate one against you. So save yourself some time if you're thinking of flaming me!
