Almost all Americans agree: It's time to get tough on illegal immigration. Yes the federal government, as always, has been slow to react. The feds have let this problem grow unchecked until it has become a complete political nightmare. And the silent majority has been, well, just that: silent.

Predictibly, the backlash has started. Next comes the rallying cry of reactionary government, "do something, DO ANYTHING". Well the ANYTHING now at the federal level is a huge waste of our tax dollars. I'm talking about the fence that is being built on our border. Anyone who has spent a day on a farm knows fences only keep in animals that want to be kept in. The same is true of people. Especially when they're hell bent on breaking through that fence to milk our welfare system and basically invade our country without ever firing a shot. These people will do ANYTHING to defeat the fence, including using dynamite, tunnels, planes, and anything else you can imagine.  Most estimates say that it will only slow a person down by a few minutes.

So what is the solution? Well surprisingly enough, it's not something the feds can do for us. (They COULD, if they'd bring our troops home and station them on our BORDERS where they belong). But the reality of the issue is that our borders are lawless and completely open.

While the feds waste our time and money building a fence that won't last 10 years, we can do something here at home. Let's crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegals. There is a bill pending in the KS legislature (SB 458) that seeks to do just that. It will make knowingly hiring an illegal a FELONY. The jobs go away, the money dries up, the illegals go home. They can then seek to enter in through our FRONT door rather than our BACK DOOR.

SB 458 has sailed through committee so far (last vote was 40-0). As the legislative session winds down, please remind your elected officials that THIS is a step in the right direction.

It's time for the silent majority to stand up to the race-card playing illegals and defend our sovereignty.

You know Racoons are really tricky animals and they love corn.. First year we tried to grow it, as soon as it was ripe they ate it all.
next put up a fence.. They just climbed that and ate all the corn again... but when we ELECTRIFIED the fence.. we got corn... and a new sport we like to watch called racoon propelling.. So, maybe I should get this info to homeland security?

Searching:That is an excellent spectator sport!LOL

I think a fence helps in the populated areas but i agree, out in the middle of no where they have all the time in the world to destroy the fence and it is probably not very prohibitive.

Great post -jp!

If the government is so worried about terrorist slipping into our country, why are they so lax at our borders? Its not hard for them to figure out where they can stroll right in.

Jpbikerfreak, I agree with your assessment. It is really that simple. Take away the motivation (work and services) to illegally enter our country and you have solved a big part of the problem. Then our border resources could be used more effectively to spot and capture those entering illegally with the intent of doing us harm (terrorist).

The problem is that we’ve allowed employers to use this cheap (basically slave) labor for so long that their livelihood is now dependent upon it and the American public has come to enjoy and expect cheap cost of the products that that this labor provides. When illegals were engaged in only seasonal labor such as agriculture, it wasn’t that big of a problem. They came here, worked the fields, and then went back home at the end of the season. But now they have been pulled into a larger workforce that has no seasonal limitation and offered social services. The allure is too great. Remove the allure and you remove the problem or at least you bring it down to a more manageable level.

Another part of the problem is the American worker mindset. No one is willing to start at the bottom and work their way up through the rank and file into management positions and beyond. That may also be the reason that so many businesses fail; the people in management never gained knowledge and experience from working at the bottom and are therefore out of touch with reality and their workforce. We forget that many great US companies started in basements, garages, and kitchens requiring years of hard work and sacrifice to make them what they are today.

Agreed on all points, Jordan!

I just think we're paying a very high in the long run price for this cheap labor in the short run.

I find it interesting that we have around 40,000 American troops in South Korea guarding their border to keep the North Koreans from over running their country.

How many troops are guarding our borders?

Isn't one of the first military strategies after you declare war on someone is to close your borders down to regulate who comes and goes in your country and to know who is already here?

A few sharpshooters at the border would probably make some illegals think twice before risking an illegal crossing.

Well, there is no way anyone is going to completely close the borders since Mexico is one of our top 2 importers of oil. The best we can do is stop businesses from hiring them, keep them from taking advantage of our schools, our medical facilities, and keep them from getting welfare...when they find out they can't get free money, free healthcare, and free education maybe they'll go back to Mexico. Well that, and tell them no more speaking spanish, waving your mexican flag in our country, and letting them walk all over us because we should have open arms for everybody. It's time to stand up and do something about it. It's not all about the government solving the problem....not enough people are speaking out against illegal immigration and so they continue to get to have their rallies etc, even though they really have no rights in this country because they are not citizens.

Hey StephentheHeathen, you are pretty close tto the number of troops in Korea. It's 37,000 and they have been there since the Korean War ended. Plus we have troops in Germany and Japan. But like you said we do not have any Troops on our border to mexico. There is something very wrong with that. We the people can see that, but why can't the politicians see that. Don't forget 90 percent of all ILLEGAL DRUGS that are messing up people are coming from mexico. mexico has never been a good neighbor to America.

I love to discuss political philosophy. The problem I have is that liberals often assume I'm conservative and convserervatives often assume I'm liberal. It's because I'm neither. I'm libertarian, which means I believe in both social and economic freedom. I don't do personal attacks. I won't respond to yours, and I won't initiate one against you. So save yourself some time if you're thinking of flaming me!
