FOX 4 Internships

General Information

FOX 4 offers internships to college juniors and seniors who wish to enhance their knowledge of broadcasting through practical experience.  Students are required to receive college credit for their time at the station.  The following are various internships that FOX 4 offers.

News:

Objectives:
To give broadcast journalism students who want to work in a television newsroom hands-on experience at a television station.

Responsibilities:
Interns will be assigned a mentor that will oversee the intern and their internship. This could be an executive producer, assignment desk manager of photographer. Responsibilities will be determined after assessing the interns abilities and will increase as the intern progresses.
 
Requirements:

• Junior or senior status at a college or university and college credit for participating in the intern program. Student must have a major in journalism, broadcasting, public relations, communications or related field.
• Work at least 20 hours per week
• Interns must dress and act as a professional.
• Will spend some time outside the station, and represent WDAF-TV while on duty.
• Show up for every scheduled shift on time and demonstrate initiative. Assignments will be made on a daily basis, and interns are part of the assignment process. If unable to work on a particular day, a phone call is required in advance.

Community Relations

Objectives:
To give broadcast journalism students hands-on experience at a television station.
 
Responsibilities:
Interns are responsible for assisting the Director of Community Relations and Creative Services Assistant in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the community affairs and public relations department for WDAF-TV FOX 4. In that capacity, interns will write news releases, public service announcements, talent biographies, as well as produce and edit videotape. In addition, students will serve as organizational and administrative support for the daily functions of the department.

Requirements:

• Junior or senior status at a college or university and college credit for participating in the intern program. Student must have a major in business, journalism, broadcasting, public relations, communications or related field.
• Work at least 20 hours per week with a minimum of 3 hours each shift (or as required by university for credit).
• Interns must dress and act as a professional.
• Will spend some time outside the station, and represent WDAF-TV while on duty.
• Show up for every scheduled shift on time and demonstrate initiative. Assignments will be made on a daily basis, and interns are part of the assignment process. If unable to work on a particular day, a phone call is required in advance.
