I know this isnt News, But every day I drive thru Down town and I see The big Green Kansas City Star Building, and the Smashed pumpkin looking Sprint Center,
Im not sure which one looks worse, but neither of them has done anything to improve KC's skyline, This is just my opinion, My neighbor helped build the KC Star Building, he said on the front end of the project it was suppose to be some high tech looking building, but after it was done he even stated that it just looks like another cheap glass building, (kind of like a Car dealership)
What do you think ?

The various posts regarding Herms comments about Boy Scouts prompted my post. While my son was involved in Boy Scouts, my husband was very involved, and would go on camp outs with him when an adult was needed. Our troop was very family oriented, and I remember several Thanksgiving camp outs where the boys would camp out and invite the family members out for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. No matter the weather. Well, last week, our daughter had a 3 day DARE camp experience, and I was camp nurse. I also was afforded the opportunity to be cabin counselor as we had a counselor unavailable at the last minute, so I bunked with my daughter and 3 other 11 year old girls. My hats go off to all campers from different organizations, Boy Scouts included that go on camp outs and also to the many volunteers that give of their time. This was my first "camp" experience. I did attend a few camps as a Girl Scout, but only a few, and that is an entirely different story. Our camp this year was quite a different experience than most in many ways, but one of the major differences I want to focus on is that we had air conditioned cabins. So for all the times I may not have been very empathetic to my guys, I say "I'm truly sorry I didn't give you enough credit!" And, I honestly think that no matter what organization you camp with, if you are doing it in the most extreme heat or cold, you are to be commended. I may be way off here, because as I said, I am not a seasoned camper, but I certainly did not expect air conditioning. One other thing I want to say is that my camp experience offered me an insight on the many different ways that children are being raised in this day and age. I would sit back in true amazement and wonder to myself if we were raising our daughter to be naive and sheltered, or if we were raising her in the old fashioned way that I was raised. I am finding it difficult to get that even keel that I often times think parents should arrive at when child rearing. As I replied to micco in his post, the best thing I can say is to be involved with your children, whether they are boys or girls, and stay involved, no matter what aspect it may be. Statistics show that children whose parents are actively involved in their lives fare better in every facet of their lives and become more productive citizens. I realize we are all busy with work and our own day to day lives. But I'm sure there is some point, at least I hope there is a way that moms and dads can make time to volunteer and do their part to be active in their childs life. Even if their child is reluctant. Trust me, my freshman is not exactly thrilled that I am STILL wanting to be involved, however, he knows that I'm there to stay! One more thing on a final note, have dinner at the table a couple times a week, make time for that. Even with their father 1200 miles away in the Navy, all 3 of us busy with our own activities, it can be difficult to arrange, but you'd be shocked (if you don't already do this) how much you can learn about them, or them about you. I wouldn't throw this all out there if I didn't do it myself, I don't "preach" it unless I practice it! Thank You for listening!

What do you think about another Crown Center?
The current Crown Center on Pershing & Grand is very successful and another one can be very successful also in the right area. I'm constantly planning for the future, especially, for the Bannister Mall area and at one time I thought about just having a shopping center similar to the Country Club Plaza, but, now I might reconsider having a mall the size of Crown Center.
Who was at Crown Center on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 in the afternoon?

Does anyone else hate that Verizon is shutting down? Sorry but I am not looking forward to the Sprint Center. Its clear downtown with all the other venues and traffic is a pain in the butt downtown. It is so easy to get to Verizon and Kemper and they are both going to be out of commission. Enjoying live music under the stars is so much better than a smoky, sweaty arena. Blah. And let me guess they will probably get rid of the Ren Fest too. All so they can sell out to some crappy strip mall or apartments. I am boycotting the Sprint Center! Childish I know but you can see good music at easier to get to venues elsewhere.

18 should be the legal drinking age. Maybe not even for hard liquor. I just think that If your old enough to make the choice to go to war, or get thrown in jail you should be able to help yourself to a Smirinoff or some Mikes hard limonade. Whats the big deal. I know 18 and 19 yr olds (Myself) more responsible than plenty of adults. People always want to label us as kids and minimize our rights but then expect us to act as adults and be responsible. Of course there may be more accidents from drunk driving but thats because there will be more people drinking. I think that if the laws are inforced more strictly and people know its serious they will think twice before they drive drunk, It seems to me the issue is people get away with a slap on the wrist until they kill someone. I pay all of my own bills, rent, and even donate. I am a responsible ADULT just like anyone else who goes to work everyday and was counting down the days to be "LEGAL" since i was 16 but it seems im still missing out. So what if insurance rates go up. Also Why is it that if you get caught with liquor and your under 21 your drivers license is automatically suspended for a yr. Is that some type of grounding? Its wrong period. And why do you have to be 19 to live in Jefferson Place apartments? Now im glad i didnt move into the crappy complex but what gives them the right to keep 18 yr olds out? Why cant we gamble? What about the clubs and concerts where you've got to be anywhere from 21,23 or 25 to get in. Thats made me miss a few good artists, and most musicians dont spend too much time in KC. Isnt this all age discrimination???? Your of legal age for everything else so someone please explain why we cant have ALL of our rights. If we arent responsible enough to drink, dont send us off to your wars or prisons, we're not responsible enough to die for our country or know better than to commit crimes. Save it for the adults over 21.

It was by far one of the best products we ever tested. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! The sponge like miracle worker could get out anything! Scuff marks, soap scum, crayons on the wall even permanent marker on a woman's hope chest!
So, when I saw the Mr.Clean Magic Eraser Mop I knew we had to try it. We did and it airs next Monday August 27th at 9pm. What I want to know is what you think! Did you buy it?
Did it work? What did you like? What didn't you like? Okay, so it's not rocket science but wouldn't it make your life easier to know you had a mop that was really going to clean your floor? Your opinions matter! Let them be heard on Monday. We can't magically erase the world's problems, so lets start with the kitchen floor.
thanks! carrie coogan

I am so incredibily outraged over the poor two dogs whose back legs have been cut off in the past two weeks!!! I am utterly sickened that someone could do such a cruel and heartless thing!! Anyone who could intentionally inflict this on a defenseless animal is a coward and deserves to experience the same fear and pain as these dogs did and also should have their legs cut off!! I hope that the person(s) responsible are caught before, God forbid, this happens again.

Today I wrote this opinion to the KC Star regarding an ad on page A7 that attempts to blame the gas price and supply problems of the 1970s on the government. I am not a particular fan of price controls but in the case of fuel I make an exception because the energy companies have take such unfair advantage of us. I am blogging the opinion here because the Star does not usually publish letters which are critical of its policies.
"I just picked up today's copy of the Star (8/22/07). On page A7 is a full page ad paid for by a group calling itself "The People of America's" and then in small, barely readable script it says"oil and natural gas industry".
The ad is misleading because it is designed to cause one to believe that it came from "The People of America". It doesn't! It comes from the same people who brought us $3.00 plus per gallon gasoline and natural gas prices that are designed to bring that industry big profits as long as you are hooked up to a gas meter even if you use no gas.
The ad is false because it does not represent history correctly. Before the Arab oil embargo of 1973 - 1974 gasoline here in Missouri sold for 25.9 cents per gallon at the pump. When the embargo happened BIG OIL saw their opportunity to gouge us and they took it! Before long the price of gasoline and everything else that had to be transported or which required fuel for its manufacture skyrocketed. It wasn't until after the government stepped in and threatened gasoline rationing and regulation of fuel prices that the price of gasoline stabilized and the gas lines disappeared.
The Star knows that this ad is historically incorrect (they have a record of the news of every day since the Star's inception on file). Shame on the Star for accepting advertising money for an ad that they know to be misleading and historically incorrect"
The following was not a part of my letter to the Star:
A conspiricy theory could be developed if one could believe that the oil companies might have paid the Arabs to stage the embargo to give oil companies a springboard from which to launch their price hikes in the '70s. I don't know if any one has ever looked into that possibility. We do know that they used hurricane Katrina as an excuse to shut down some of their refining capacity to launch the price hikes that started right after Katrina. We also know that they could not have caused Katrina.
The gas lines of the 70s were caused by jittery consumers who were watching the price of gas go up and up and didn't want to let their fuel tanks get too empty so they would run an errand and then stop in to top off their fuel tank. Rising prices and rumors of shortages made people nervous - add to that the fact that the oil companies started shutting down most of ther outlets on Sundays which added to consumer jitters.
The fuel problems of the 70s were not caused by the government. They were contrived by the oil companies and now they want you to write to your elected representatives so their feeding frenzy on our incomes can go on uninteruppted.
Don't buy their propaganda! They want you to help them do their dirty work!

This is not my cousin, someone had sent this to me, please read!!
FYI. This was passed along to me and, neither I nor the person who sent this to me know this person. Definitely something to think about.
PASS THIS ON EVEN IF YOU DO NOT USE IT
"Recently this past week, my cousin Nicole Dishuk (age 31...newly grad student with a doctoral degree about to start her new career as a Doctor...) was flown into a nearby hospital, (She lives in Penn. ) because she passed out.
They found a blot clot in her neck, and immediately took her by helicopter to the ER to operate. by the time they removed the right half of her skull to relieve the pressure on her brain, the clot had spread to her brain causing severe damage.
Since last Wednesday night, she was battling.. they induced her into a coma to stop the blood flow, They operated 3 times..
Finally, they said there was nothing left that they could do.. they found multiple clots in the left side of her brain.. the swelling wouldn't stop, and she was on life support..
She died at 4:30 yesterday. She leaves behind a husband, and a 2 yr old Brandon and a 4yr old Justin.. The CAUSE of DEATH - they found was a birth control she was taking that allows you to only have your period 3 X's a year... They said it interrupts life's menstrual cycle, and although it is FDA approved... shouldn't be - I ask you to boycott this product & deal with your period once a month - so you can live the rest of the months that your life has in store for you.

It seemed that every highway was blocked off or backed up from KCI to the plaza because the President was in town.
I have worked at two hotels where the President stayed and never remembered having a problem getting to work or getting to my destination.
America used to be a sort of worry -free country until our recent politician started sticking their nose in other countries affairs because of the super power mentality that the U.S. has on it resume. I am for going after criminals that commit crimes such as 911 but that was in Afghanistan which no one talks about anymore.
America has venture off into Iraq where soldiers are on the frontline defending the country and still the President and many others are afraid to go anywhere in America without inconviencing others by shutting down highways, buildings, and businesses to make a 1 hour or less appeareance. I saw all kinds of trucks such as Ups, Fed-X, walmart , and etc. stuck on the highway along with the hundreds of motorists.
All I am saying is if the leaders of this country has become so afraid that highways has to be shut down then where do that leave us. I am for security for the President and any other politician but I Know that it didn't used to be that way . There has got to be another solution.

Did you have to travel through downtown on your way to work this morning ? I-670 is closed for "Bridge Painting" during the middle of the week. Could the real reason be that the President is speaking at Bartle Hall at 9:55 and the secret service does not want any vehicles driving under the building ? They think if they make up a story, that we the ignorant public will swallow it whole.

A little while back I had written a prayer request for my grandpa who has the cancerous mass on his kidney.
Well my grandpa has been up in the kansas city va medical center for the past two or three weeks because he has some major blood in his urine and is passing blood clots and we still dont know where the bleeding is for sure coming from. Well since we was put in the hospital we havent made any sense of what the doctors are going to do. My family and I are to the point where we really dont care for the doctors, nurses or the hospial it self. Here are a few reasons why.
We went up there last monday and there was blood on the floor from where they went to draw my grandpas blood, his vein collasped and the lady just pulled the needle out and started on the other arm without putting something on the first arm to stop the bleeding. I bet my mom told everyone that walked into that room that that blood needed to be cleaned up and it took almost two hours for someone to clean it up.
Everytime the doctors come in you cant make any sense as to what is going on, and what they are going to do because at some point my grandpa is suppose and is going to have to have surgery. On friday after the bleeding had slowed up but he was still passing blood clots the hospital went a head and sent him home and he was back up there saturday night because he had started bleeding again. They should have never sent him home to begin with!!! My grandpa is a diabetic and has got to have his insulin well we was up visiting him today and they hadnt gave him his insulin today or the day before and when he asked the nurses about it they blew him off like it was no big deal. He ended up checking his blood sugar him self and his blood surgar was up to 293 and the nurses still did nothing about it. We could up there for two to three hours at a time and you wouldnt even see a nurse for the whole time but MAYBE once or twice. Shouldnt they check on their patients more than that???? And now they are saying that they cant let him have to surgery done there at the va hospital until the end of september. Thats too long. For someone who is bleeding and in that much pain.
If you ask me and the rest of my family who is very concerned about my grandpa and the bleeding that is going on that hospital is a joke. My grandpa has lost so much blood when we went to see him today he is just very pale and in alot of pain but yet no one thinks the bleeding is a big deal and is no big hurry to do something about it.
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE DOCTORS, NURSES, AND HOSPITALS THESE DAYS??????

Tell me what is up with some idiots on the road today. Hang up and drive already, If its important call between trips or before leaving. I worked hard to build my credit and get my brand new car, so please stop throwing your nasty lit cigarettes out the window, that burns me up when they hit my car and makes me nervous... plus how rude and inconsiderate anyways! Semi's and big trucks stay off my butt. Your lights dont need to be blinding me and you dont need to stay on my bumper to intimidate me out the way, I am not going to speed and get a ticket because you want to chase me down a 2 lane highway at 80+ mph. Remember, if your that close I can break and sue. And its not just big trucks doing the tailgating either, leave 5 minutes earlier and then you wont have to worry about running yellow lights and mowing down other drivers en route. I see an accident almost every day near Santa Fe and Murlen, ha most the time its some idiot who thinks that if they ride the bumper of the person in front of them the other 7 cars will magically speed up 2 seconds after a green light. Motorcyclist dont be stupid. Stop weaving through traffic like a fool because you dont know how everyone drives, just becuase your on a bike doesnt mean everyone's going to cater to you, and when the wrong person doesn't your CREAM. If your going to drink, stay at home or wait til you get in the parking lot of where you are going at least. Then, have a designated driver. The dummies who've taken innocent lives behind their wheels while drunk probably thought they could handle their liqor too. Aslo dont be like the idiot on I-35 N this weekend, If you notice your car sparking while on the freeway, exit immidiately, dont keep driving along and end up taking someone else out with you.If you didnt know well now you do. Some stuff should be common sense and coutesy. There have been way too many fatal accidents recently and if people were a little smarter and considerate, I dont doubt many lives would be spared.

As shown on Carrie Coogan's "Try it Before You Buy it" segment this evening, the professional Furminator tool is available to the general public, as is their reformulated (cheaper for mass-marketing, therefore NOT the same quality as we pros used to exclusively purchase from them). HOWEVER, before you think you can do it yourself at home, there are a couple details that you need to know:
1) The Deshedding shampoo and conditioner do NOT work to their maximum potential unless they are run through a bath system, such as a Hanvey Bathing Beauty or a Hydrosurge power-washer. These units help drive the products into the pet's coat, deep-cleaning the coat and skin, loosening more coat, and giving the pet a hydro-massage. Oh, and they cost about $500, so not cost-effective for anyone but a professional....
2)The High-Velocity dryer that Carrie commented that we pros use doesn't just dry the pet faster. It also loosens and blows a large volume of undercoat off the pet before we ever get to using the actual Furminator tool. I must add that human hair-dryers get way too hot for use on pets, and should only be used for spot-drying small parts of the pet.
Professional groomers have far better tools and products than are available to the public at any Petsomething store. Like any professional service, you will pay more to have us do the work, but our knowledge and skill will yield far better results than you can possibly achieve at home.
