A Fox News story tonight lists a constitution party convention as an underdog that just "might have a shot" in the upcoming election. Well I'd like to ask, how do you "have a shot" when you only have ballot access in 20 states? The constitution party has been nearly defunct for years now. However, by contrast, the Libertarian Party (LP) held its conference in Kansas City 3 weeks ago. Fox conveniently ignored that convention.

I find it difficult to understand why the LP convention was ignored but the constitution party was featured. The constitution party doesn't even have ballot access in Kansas, yet the LP has ballot access in both KS and MO. Furthermore, the LP expects to have access in 48 states again this election cycle, just as it did in the last.

The LP convention featured a debate including former U.S. Senator Mike Gravel, former CNBC Co-anchor, best selling author, self made millionaire and "King of Vegas", Wayne Allyn Root. To top that off, former US House Representative Bob Barr announced his consideration for a run for US President at the convention. Barr is best known for leading the impeachment trials against Bill Clinton. He is currently polling nationwide at 7%, which is huge for a 3rd party candidate.

The LP is the only viable 3rd party in the United States. It is the largest 3rd party, and the fastest growing. But for some reason, it's not newsworthy compared to a party that apparently has nominated a pastor that nobody has ever heard of.

CNN showed up and ran the story nation wide, but for some reason Fox didn't show.

Why?

Good question for Fox isn't it? Perhaps and email to thier news editor would answer that question.
I saw the news story as well on TCP. Without a whole lot of research on their actaul platform I would tend to say I could vote for their candidate. Who is the Libertarian Party candidate?
Educate me please.

"an" instead of and.
Their istead of thier.
"Actual" instead of actaul.

Nobody yet, JohnK.

Right now Wayne Root is our front runner. www.rootforamerica.com. Bob Barr would probably be tied or even possibly edging root out, but he hasn't officially announced yet so I'm not including him. I'd say the only other close contender might be Mike Gravel.

We haven't held our convention yet. That's coming up in about 3 weeks. I'll be attending as a delegate and have already pledged my vote and support to root (see my pic with him on this blog).

JohnK- if you are going to be the spelling and grammar police on yourself, it's instead not istead. Just having fun with you. Interesting topic though jp.

Thanks jdem. It's very frustrating sometimes. I've been an activist and party officer in the LP for some time, and people don't believe the media bias against us. It's blatant, especially with newspapers who aren't required to give equal time or be fair. Broadcast media is supposed to give equal time but it rarely is truly EQUAL.

Sometimes the republicrats will refuse to show up if one of our candidates is present. It's just ridiculous. If anyone thinks our election system is anything other than a farce he's sadly mistaken.

JD; thanks for the correction on the correction. I wish spellcheck was included at the comments portion as with many other blog sites but alas it is not. We should put it on our wish list for blog section upgrades.

I hear you on the spellcheck. I don't know how many times my fingers typed teh instead of the. It is probably my most common typo. I try to review my work before I post but I miss some of the easy typos. On long posts, I copy and paste to Word and run spellcheck.

I love to discuss political philosophy. The problem I have is that liberals often assume I'm conservative and convserervatives often assume I'm liberal. It's because I'm neither. I'm libertarian, which means I believe in both social and economic freedom. I don't do personal attacks. I won't respond to yours, and I won't initiate one against you. So save yourself some time if you're thinking of flaming me!
