Why is it that the Local Media is making a big deal out of this local American Idol kid, and Not a Big deal about my neighbors Kid that just returned from Iraq this week, after risking his life for our freedom,

Because the News Media Suckks and everyone should open their eyes and thank the real heros, the young men and women that are willing to risk their  lives for our freedom,

You are absolutely right! I am sick to death of "Idol" news every 15 minutes. I just turn off the TV.

My husband just asked the same question this am! You know in my gym they actually have posters of David Cook up, why not those that are defending his right to sing and be free?

Most who join the military do so not for the fame or notoriety but because they love their country. We should honor our veterans and those currently serving more. It's interesting because there was a line in the movie Rambo when Stallone was asked what he wanted and said, "I want what they want (meaning the POWs he just rescued), for our country to love us, as much as we love it".

I think this country has become somewhat numb on this war. It seemed that there was more pride and patriotism in the first Gulf War than this one. It may be due to the circumstances or the fact that it has been dragging on with little positive news from the media on it.

Please tell your neighbor thank you for me. I support those fighting everyday, running a local military support group. It is hard, so very hard to get coverage of what we do, yet it's too easy for those that don't care about what's happening to those fighting and coming home.

I couldn't agree with you more Calco.

What we need from our media is more smoke and mirrors to turn our attention away from things that really matter.

I'm sick of hearing about Idol, Bodies Revealed and School Day at the K.

Why can't we just hear the news?

On one hand I'm glad that a local person made it big,but the local media especially f4 is just running it into the ground.

Idol is run into the ground even if one of the contestants isn't from our area. The "news" has to show highlights, who got booted off, etc. If I cared about that, I'd watch Idol.

KCTV-5 doesn't air that much about Idol.

Quick, name the runner up two years ago.

It is all fleeting fame, remember "millionaire" with Regis? In a relatively short time, Idol will be a distant memory too.

Well I was watching fox 4 at noon today, and it was 20 minutes into the newscast that they actually started talking about something else. I agree. For pete's sake, they are having a fricking parade! Enough already-he hasnt even won!

Nader, If we think it's bad now, we'll never hear the end of it if he DOES win.

I commented on another blog but I want to comment here as well. He deserved some coverage because he is a local but not a whole day.

The men and women coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan deserve far more coverage and attention!

Laila - I really appreciate what you are doing! It is very important that our servicemen & women know that they are appreciated. I came home from Vietnam in 1970. Nobody outside of my immediate family told me "welcome home and thanks for your service" until 5/23/87. On that day I marched in a dedication ceremony for a veterans memorial in St. Clair, Missouri. I marched with my mom & dad - both WWII vets and with 2 brothers and a sister who were Vietnam era vets - I was the only one who actually went there.

Come on you guys. Do you have on blinders?? You are talking about two totally different issues here: Vets vs. American Idol. I am an Idol fan (yep, at age 73 no less). I am also a devoted fan of our veterans! In fact, we just returned from a trip to Virginia - by train. We had a lay-over in Chicago and there was a G.I. waiting to board the train and I approached him to thank him for his service; for helping to keep us safe here at home. I even gave him a hug! Every time I see a vet I do that. Do you?? I pray for their safety every day. Do you?? I pray for their families every day who wait for their return. Do you??
Yesterday was David Cook day. Out of the thousands who auditioned, he has made it to the top 3. How many from your home town have accomplished that? Let him have his day. I hope he goes on to win it all (and I think he will)! Have a great day and God bless you.

I think that you are responsible for yourself, If you cannot support yourself, No one else should have to. The tax payers shouldnt have to support other peoples poor decisions, Our children are our future, So give them NO LESS than every chance and opportunity that was afforded to you and the reward will be Priceless !!!!!!!
