I don't know if anyone really cares, but I have finally started with a new band. It's called "Out of Sight" or "Outta Sight" (that point is still being debated). We're a collection of visually impaired musicians (I do qualify just barely. My vision without glasses is very poor, but is corrected well enough to do most things) playing a wide variety of music. So far it's been a lot of fun, since all the guys seem to be pretty good players.
We're making our debut this Saturday, Nov. 29th at Union Station playing a fundraiser for the Allied Workers for the Blind and the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired. The event will be held in the Stillwell Room on the lower level, with admission being $20 per person. Appetizers will be provided and there will be a cash bar.
As I said, this is a benefit show so in addition to hearing what promises to be a pretty good band, all attending will be helping out a very worthy cause. So please, come out and help us raise some money to help out a couple of great organizations. I'll look forward to seeing you there.
I had the chance to speak to David this morning (albeit indirectly thanks to FOX 4!) to ask if he felt
the album was rushed, and we both agree...it was. But rushed isn't
always a negative. And in Cook's case, this is only the beginning.
David Cook's whirlwind self titled release day has finally come to a
close. With iTunes showing David as #1 on the Rock chart, and a solid
#2 with SoundScan, this release looks to be promising. But with the
week ahead, will the album keep steam?
Critics across the country have thrown both praises and acidic
commentary towards the new fledged rocker. Hearing everything from
near-worship to "Daughtry Clone" remarks, it's hard to say where the
pieces fit for David Cook.
With pressure from management to get the album out for a holiday
release, it's apparent that there is a lackluster sheen to the finished
product. Some of the same sounds are heard prominently, while others
may have you questioning which Idol's album you just purchased.
However, the cloned tracks are not unpleasant, (save for Light On...)
and actually pique your curiosity just enough to see where exactly
David Cook is headed next after this initial release.
It's hard to say which audience Cook wants to grasp as his main
demographic. With a college tour to ensue early next year, it may be a
slightly misconstrued communication to those who have remained
faithful, and even more so to the older demographic of Cook fans. The
release has proved to be a strategic one, with Cook even going so far
as to say, "I just want it to be important." Staying power for the next
album after certain "vices" are no longer in place? May as well come
out and say it directly. Sure, it's not great, but it WILL make a great
coaster once the new album comes out after I cut a few strings, but
thanks for the .15 cents I need to get me to my next record!
Despite the cookie-cutter sounds, there are a few tracks that do
stand out. Definitely worth it's place as the #1 song on the album is,
'Declaration.' It's catchy. And you will find yourself singing your
lungs out alongside David because it's just that damn good. Or maybe
it's my slight obsession with The Goo Goo Dolls front man John Rzeznik
(who lent his shiny Songwriter's Hall of Fame finishing touch to the
track) speaking. Also well worth the listen is 'Permanent.' You may
have to sit for this one. It's not the David Cook you know and love,
and this is why I love it. He really bares his soul in this extremely
raw, emotional piece. It's moving. And it proves that you don't have to
be the bad ass rocker to actually man up and just SING. Throw out any
misconceptions you may have, Cook wants to prove himself. And to do
that, one must see past the devoid of emotion packaging and look into
the music itself. If you listen close enough, David tells you his
life's journey and the heartache he's faced thus far in achieving his
dreams. Lyrically, it's stunning. I just wish some of the music
actually fit the words a bit more eloquently. I'm sure with more time,
Cook would have been able to achieve that.
Overall, this is just enough to satisfy any fan and give the masses
exactly what they wanted. Listen and love, everyone. What's next for
David Cook will be even better still! So stop holding on to those
Analog Heart days. Those are long gone, my friends.

I heard he cried when he was told he was #1 on iTunes last night at the signing after his Hard Rock Cafe show. He had to take a minute to compose himself, he cried!
Check out David Cook's new CD. You will be pleasantly surprised. A little bit of everything for everyone on this one. We were made aware of David's wide variety of music and his impeccable performances on AI and throughout the AI summer tour. David came close to breaking the Beatles' record by having 11 of his songs on the top billboard charts at one time. You can purchase his music through I-tunes, Amazon, and Walmart. David currently has two big hits being played currently on the air, "Light On" and "Time of My Life", and both songs are included on his new cd!Also, check out David's new video and interview on VH1 Top 20 Countdown this coming weekend.
We are looking forward to going to see Willie Nelson in concert on November 26 at the midland theater ! This man has been around for a long time and if you miss this show you will regret it! I am hoping to get some great backstage pictures and hopefully a great story to post !This will be my first time going to the midland and have heard that it has went from rundown to restored. Willie Nelson is one of my favorite singers and story tellers,he has played music with all the greats and since we missed his last show we are looking forward to meeting him and hearing him sing some great songs.
I've never paid much attention to the band Level 42. You might remember them for the songs "Lessons in Love" and "Something About You" in the mid-1980s. Saturday I received an aircheck of Toronto radio station CFNY from November 21, 1986. In the second song on the aircheck, I kept hearing the line "Kansas City Milkman." I had never heard it before - who would possibly a record a song like that? After searching the lyrics, it turns out Level 42 recorded a song in 1984 called "Kansas City Milkman." But I have no idea if it truly has any Kansas City meaning. It doesn't sound like it. I found a concert version of the song on YouTube so you can listen for yourself.
Music Director Michael Stern has crafted a strong season filled with audience favorites, big-name stars and bright newcomers. Violinist Midori, keyboard masters - Emanuel Ax and Peter Serkin and Kansas City's own mezzo soprano Joyce DiDonato will appear this season. Musical highlights include Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, the "Pastorale;" Brahms' Serenade No. 1; Schumann's Symphony No. 2; plus Symphonies of Mozart, Haydn, Mahler and more.
Richard Wright, on of the founding members of Pink Floyd, died of cancer Monday.
His keyboard artistry provided the backbone of the Floyd's "trance" like rhythm. Appropriately, he co-wrote several of the songs on the mega blockbuster 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon," which has sold over 40 million copies.
Most recently, he was touring with former Pink Floyd guitarist & vocalist David Gilmour on his "On an Island" tour.
He now is up with Syd Barrett, mastering "The Great Gig in the Sky."

After 20 some years of playing in bars, I got tired of the whole thing and "retired" a few years back. Now that I've had a chance to be away from it for a while, I've decided I'd like to start playing out again. The problem? Finding a band to play with.
Being in my 40's, I'm not really interested in joining a 'kids' band. However, finding grownups to play with is proving more difficult than I'd hoped.
So, if there's anybody out there reading this who knows of a band that could use a good bass player/singer, (I'm not bragging here, honest) pass on my email ([email protected]) and maybe I'll be able to get back to work soon.
Wow, that sure reads like a classified ad, doesn't it?
This gentleman is a man I work with. He and his band are looking for an audience and the possibility of going big-time. At this time, I do not have any songs to upload, but I should have a video of his band playing sometime soon.
Edit: This show will be a battle of the bands, 5 bands total, including Bill's band.
Second edit: This band will also have a show at Marty's Blues Cafe in Merriam, KS, Thursday July 10th. The meeting starts at 7pm to determine the order the bands will play, so arrive at or just before 7pm. I would greatly appreciate some assistance in giving Bill's band some recognition in the music arena, so anyone who can show up to support the band, please do so.
Update: The band is working on getting a CD made with some songs on it. The CD should be ready in a few weeks. I will get a copy of the CD and upload some songs when they get one made.
Please take a moment to listen to this guy, it's worth the time! Andy is an independent artist with amazing vocal, songwriting & musical talent. Former front man for Midwest kings, and good friend of David Cook. David actually played guitar and sang vocals with Andy in MWK. If you like what you hear, I ask you visit his MySpace page to get even better quality tracks from Andy! Drop him a line, he's a great guy too!
